The Principles of Graphic Design

Balance

I think this is a great example of balance in graphic design because of the use of colours. One side of this picture has orange on grey, and the other has grey on orange. An element used in this is of course colour because the orange really stands out with the grey.

Proximity

In my opinion, the Adidas logo is a good representation of proximity because of the rectangles above the text. They were put relatively close to each other to enhance the layout and make it look smoother. Elements used in this design are shape because of the rectangles, and also type because of the text.

Alignment

I chose this to represent alignment because the way the different shapes were put together. They were aligned close together which brings more excitement. An element used in this is type. The text were added inside the large shapes to make the design more engaging.

Repetition/Consistency

I think this is a good example of repetition and consistency because it is the same small design repeating itself on one big image. The way this is put together makes it flow easily. As for elements, colour is used in this one for sure. The lighter colours were put over the dark purple background to compliment it.

Contrast

I like the way this represents contrast because of the big black text against the white, and right under it there is small white text against a black background. The way it is put together makes the design more effective.

White/Negative Space

This photo simply only utilizes the two corners. The part that makes the negative space interesting is the way they still made it connect to the main part. For example, they made the girl's hair extend out to create empty space. This is also an example of colour because of the way the orange bounces off the black.

The Elements of Graphic Design

Line

I chose to use this as an example of line because it utilizes lines in almost every part of it. Lines are creating and connecting triangles and the different shapes together.

Shape

I think this movie poster is a good representation of shapes in graphic design because it contains many different shapes such as rectangles, circles, triangles and even some organic shapes. Shapes are used to create things such as eyes and clothing in this particular picture.

Mass

I like the way this picture represents mass because you can see that the younger people in this group were drawn smaller to show the age difference. A person being older is drawn larger and taller.

Texture

I chose this picture because it could be seen as a few different things just by looking at the texture. Some people may see it as a type of fabric, and others may think of it as a basket.

Colour

I really like this eye deisgn because of the use of colour. The pink, purple and blue all blend in with each other smoothly and the neon blue background really pops against the white.

Type

I like how effective the text looks in this design because of the different sizes and fonts. The main words of this quote, such as "town," "paper" and "memories" were added in large font while the less important words such as "was,' is written smaller, an in a different font.

Photography

Question #1- What topic did you chose to explore?
I chose to explore the topic of photos and photography.

Question #2 - Why did you chose this topic, was it a previous interest or would you like to learn more about it?
I absolutely adore photography. I love the perfection of all the different angles and I especially love filtering them to get the perfect lighting and colours.

Question #3 - Give 3 examples of where you find this type of media in your everyday life.
Photos are found in art Galleries and in your everyday life. You can find pictures hung up on the walls of stores, schools and houses.

Question #4 - Using your chosen visual aid to answer, what purpose does this media serve and who is the target audience?
This picture is a through the lens/behind the camera type of photograph. Instead of taking a picture of the Eiffel Tower itself, this particular photo is taking a picture of a camera pointed at the tower. People interested in different types of intricate photography would love this photo.

Question #5 - Why did you chose the specific visual aid and how does it best represent you chosen topic?
I chose to use this picture as my visual because Paris has always been somewhere I'd love to travel to. The Eiffel Tower is gorgeous and whenever I see pictures of it, they always look so good. I also like how this isn't just a regular picture, it's different and unique.

Magazine Covers

Question #1- What topic did you chose to explore?
I have chosen to explore the topic of magazine covers.

Question #2 - Why did you chose this topic, was it a previous interest or would you like to learn more about it?
I was always very interested in magazines when I was younger. I'd get excited about how colorful the covers were and I'd especially like it when I saw a celebrity I loved on them.I feel like magazines are very eye-catching.

Question #3 - Give 3 examples of where you find this type of media in your everyday life.
Well I see magazine covers obviously on magazines, but they are also found on social media when they're posted as pictures. I see them in apps and even giant billboards as well.

Question #4 - Using your chosen visual aid to answer, what purpose does this media serve and who is the target audience?
The girl on this magazine cover is actually a dancer from one of my favourite TV shows, "Dance Moms." With that said, this particular magazine is aimed towards fans of that TV show, and seeing as the cover is very girly, its aimed for basically any young teenage girl.

Question #5 - Why did you chose the specific visual aid and how does it best represent you chosen topic?
I don't normally purchase magazines for my own pleasure but I actually bought the one I chose as my visual. It was something I felt I had to get because I saw the girl on the cover and freaked out. This magazine was a good example for something I personally thought was very interesting.

Video

Question #1- What topic did you chose to explore?
The first topic I chose to talk about is videos.

Question #2 - Why did you chose this topic, was it a previous interest or would you like to learn more about it?
I chose videos because I've always been very interested in watching different videos and making them myself, whether its on YouTube, TV or any social media. I enjoy making my own short video edits and seeing the outcome.

Question #3 - Give 3 examples of where you find this type of media in your everyday life.
I see this type of media everyday on TV , like a commercial, on YouTube and on Instagram. I always see fanpages making video edits of celebrities.

Question #4 - Using your chosen visual aid to answer, what purpose does this media serve and who is the target audience (who are they trying to reach, mothers, kids, students, wealthy, poor, etc.)
I think the commercial I have chosen is aimed towards gymnasts and parents. The person in this commercial is an Olympic gymnast who inspires many other young gymnasts, and when those gymnasts watch the commercial, they'll be begging their parents to buy tide pods.

Question #5 - Why did you chose the specific visual aid and how does it best represent you chosen topic?
I chose this specific visual aid because commercials always catch my eye. Also I, myself used to be a gymnast, and Simone Biles is one of my all time favourite athletes so this commercial was even more eye-catching to me.
